Best Gifts for a Jiu-Jitsu Practitioner

Jiu-jitsu is an incredibly popular and fast growing sport, and it’s highly likely that you are here because your friend, family member, or significant other is into it.  Being the supportive friend/family member/significant other you are, you decided to support their hobby and find some of the best gifts for a jiu-jitsu practitioner.  Am I on the right track so far?

Without having to know much about jiu-jitsu, you can rest easy knowing you have come to the right spot.  I myself actively practice and have gone through my fair share of jiu-jitsu stuff. And believe me, there is a lot.

Below, I will give my best suggestions for jiu-jitsu gifts and give explanation on what they provide.  So without further ado, let’s get into it!

Rash Guard(s) + Outfit

Rash guards are probably the absolute best gift to get someone practicing jiu-jitsu.  They work regardless of them liking gi or no-gi (if you don’t know what that means, you can read my Gi vs. No-Gi article if you’re interested in learning) and all practitioners can never seem to have enough of them.

On top of that, brands continue to come out with new designs so you can be sure to find one that fits the style of the person you are buying for.  They can come in full sets but more often come in individual pieces.

Some recommendations are below.

Sanabul

Sanabul rash guard tops are some of the best quality for the lowest dollar rash guards out there.  They’re simple but have enough variation in color that anyone can appreciate them.

When purchasing, you can stick with just the top or go for a full outfit which you can find above.  One piece of advice in purchasing a top is to get the same color rash guard that their belt is.  It’s not a hard and fast rule, but it’s certainly a best practice.

So if they are a blue belt, it will be best to stick with a blue or a color that doesn’t match another belt (all black is typically fine though). The jiu-jitsu belt colors are white, blue, purple, brown, and black.

Elite

Elite is very similar to Sanabul.  It’s a great starter brand that is made well and is relatively inexpensive.  Again, you can splurge for a full outfit, but the tops are typically the most worn and appreciated.

LAFROI / ROAR MMA

Alright, now we’re getting more interesting.  LAFROI and ROAR MMA makes rash guards for surfers as well as jiu-jitsu practitioners.  I have some that I use frequently in jiu-jitsu and they have held up great.  On top of that, the designs on these are far more diverse and interesting than some of the previous suggestions.

So if you’re gifting for someone who appreciates a bit of art, detail, or otherwise, once of these won’t ever be a bad way to go!

Workout/Duffel Bag

Warrior Series Jiu Jitsu Bjj Gym Duffle Bag for MMA, BJJ, Boxing Gear, Duffel Athletic Gym Backpack with Shoes Compartment.

How close are you with the person you are shopping for?  If you are close enough that you actually live with them, a jiu-jitsu duffel bag might be a great gift for the both of you and you 100% know what I mean by that.

On top of that, it can be a little irritating carrying around a bunch of gear, especially when you’re done and it is SOAKED in sweat.  A lot of people do it by hand or with some old backpack, so why not do your giftee a favor a level up their jiu-jitsu bag?

FloGrappling Subscription

Alright, let’s get away from attire for a minute.  If you have someone who is really getting into jiu-jitsu to the point that they watch it on Youtube all the time, are practicing around their house, and don’t stop talking about it, then a FloGrappling subscription might be a great gift option.

FloGrappling is THE main video streamer for all jiu-jitsu and wrestling events.  Think Netflix for jiu-jitsu. There are events just about every weekend and it can certainly help a jiu-jitsu practitioner keep their fill.  It’s money well spent.

Professional Video Course

If your giftee meets the above criteria of watching Youtube videos about jiu-jitsu all the time, then another great option are Video trainings taught by the champions themselves. While FloGrappling shows live events, the video trainings are in-depth walkthroughs of how to improve your jiu-jitsu game.

There are a lot of them out there, so you may want to ask your giftee if they have a favorite competitor or if they are working on anything in particular in their jiu-jitsu game.  Then search that person or move and see if they have any videos online about it.  Bjjfanatics.com is a website that consolidates a lot of these trainings from a lot of different fighters.

If you have no idea what to get, then I would recommend something from Gordon Ryan who is the #1 no-gi practitioner right now, Marcelo Garcia who is one of the greatest of all time, or Tainan Dalpra, who is a multi-time world champion in the Gi.

Since those 3 are some of the best, their videos will tend to be a bit pricier.  If you’re looking for something less costly, then I would sift through BJJ Fanatics or online for some other options.

Grip Strengthener

This can be a bit more of a “stocking stuffer” kind of gift, but it’s a good one regardless.  Jiu-jitsu requires a LOT of grip strength, regardless of if you do gi or no-gi.

So what could be better than a grip strengthener that can be left in a desk and used at a moments notice?  Not much I say.  So throw one into your jiu-jitsu persons gift and know that you’ve helped them take one step closer to being beat up slightly less than they were.

Sandals

Under Armour Men's Locker Camo
It’s another “stocking stuffer” of a gift, but yet it’s another great one.  No one comes to jiu-jitsu wearing full closed toed shoes.  You enter the mat barefoot, so having something that is easy to slip on and off is certainly ideal.

What’s the best type of footwear for jiu-jitsu?  Sandals.  Do you know what your jiu-jitsu persons sandals look like?  I bet they look pretty crummy.  So level them up with some seriously comfortable sandals that they can wear to each and every practice they attend.

Want some baller sandals that absorb sweat and designed to reduce odor?  Go for the OOFOS.  Want some classic sandals that you can never go wrong with?  Go for the Adidas.  Want something that is at least better than the scraps of rubber that your giftee currently has?  New Balance sandals may be for you.

If there’s any other favorite gifts of yours that I missed, let me know in the comments section below!
